the synthetic data promise for research

I am currently working with  sensitvie data provided by CBS, the Netherlands Statistical Agency. Those data are direclty linked to individuals and their use is stricly controlled. 

On the one hand, I am very pleased by such protocoles and how privacy is taken very seriously by those organisations. One the other hand, this makes my work much harder and limit my freedom to manipulate the data as I want for my research.

A possible solution to that coud be the synthetic data. I recently wrote an article about the technology, so please, have a look!
